12 Steps to launching and marketing your DVD |
|
When you’re launching a new DVD to the market you’ll want to give yourself maximum exposure whilst still keep cost down . Here’s the 12 steps I take when I launch a new DVD to a market.
1. Build a Google optimized Website Add the new DVD to your website or build a new website to present your DVD and take orders from, the site should be Google optimized giving you the highest chance of being found in organic search results. See Article 5 steps to optimizing your website
2. Submit articles Article submission does work, Write between 30 - 90 articles related to the topic of your DVD each article should be 300 - 500 words and should also include a link back to the product site at the end of each article. Submit one article per day to at least ten article directories, ie. if you have 30 articles do this for 30 days submitting 1 article ten times to ten article submission directories. Also create and place an article section on your website and place the articles there to help seo results.
3. Buy Google adwords (pay per click) Google adwords or pay per click advertising allows your product website to appear at the top of Google in “sponsored links” each time the keywords you have chosen have been searched for. Google will charge you each time someone click onto your website from the pay per click ad. NOTE: Always set a maximum monthly budget within adwords!
4.Buy additional PPC ads For example: MSN - Similar to Google’s AdWords service, MSN can also give your product exposure in MSN’s and Bing search engine. Remember to always set a maximum budget.
5. Leave footprints in forums Visit and sign up to forums related to the topic of your DVD start posting, answering questions, joining in on discussion and being helpful. When you create a profile in each forum be sure to create a “signature” the signature link should be a web link to your website / product page.
6. Press Release / PR Sending press releases can be a good way of giving your product exposure - Create your press releases in different formats. Write one in a standard Press Release format, and write one in a magazine style article format. A good place to start sending your press releases is www.prweb.com there are also many other media PR outlets.
7. Offer product via affiliate program Set up an affiliate program to allow others to promote market and sell your DVD in return for a percentage of each sale.
8. Joint venture Joint venture with marketers who have a list of targeted customers. Make a deal with the marketer to promote and send your product offer to his list in return for a percentage of the sale.
9. Review Copies Sending review copies of your DVD to magazine editors and popular blogger's, sending a review copy of your DVD with cover letter and press release to known and popular writers/editors/reviewers and most popular blog in the market you’re targeting if an extremely effective way of spreading the word. If they publish your PR release and give your product the thumbs up it could lead to a high volume of sales.
10. Purchasing banner advertisements on high traffic websites and discussion forums Buying banner ads on discussion forums and internet websites related to the topic of your product can be a good way of getting your product noticed. Research each site you plan to purchase and place a banner ad on, make sure that the site is appropriate for you DVD.
11. Create an eBay auction Creating an eBay auction can get your DVD noticed, people expect to pay below the retail price on eBay that’s why I sometimes choose not to sell my DVDs on eBay but it is an option and can lead to further purchases of related products on your website providing you let the customer know that your website exists.
12.Place your DVD on Amazon Sign up to Amazon advantage program and submit your DVD for sale. 9 in 10 DVD's sold online are sold through Amazon. Amazon will manage all the sales and marketing, they will takes the orders, they will processes the credit cards and ship the DVD to the customer.
But: Amazon will also take 55% of the product price. That means if your DVD is priced at £50 for each sale you receive you’ll get 45% £22.50.
